Meet Mrs. Duncan
Hello, as you may know my name is Nicole Duncan. I graduated with a Special Education degree from High Point University in 2009, and making a positive difference in a child's life is my passion. In 2011, I took on the task of becoming certified in Health and Physical Education. I finished my Master's in Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education in the Winter of 2014 through Western Michigan University. During the 2014-2015 school year, I was the Adapted PE Specialist for Randolph County. It was a wonderful experience that I am beyond grateful for, but it also taught me that my place is in the every day school environment.
Currently, I am attending High Point University to study Educational Leadership. I intend to graduate in May 2018 and apply for assistant principal jobs. My career goal is to receive a Doctorate of Education and become a professor of Special Education.
I am truly blessed that I get to help make a difference in the lives of students who struggle with education due to different disabilities and delays. Everyday creates new opportunities for things to be learned and taught by both teacher and students.
I believe that humor is the key to a positive atmosphere in the classroom, and that it truly can make a difference! Relieving stress or anxiety can be done through laughter, as well as physical activity. I believe that connecting with students will help improve their drive to succeed in not just my class, but in school as a whole. Connecting with students is an easy thing to do when teachers respect what students go through and have fun with what they are teaching.
Now a little about me outside of education. I was born and raised in Kingston, New York; which is located in the Catskill Mountains! I played volleyball, basketball and lacrosse while in High School. I married Adam Duncan, (math teacher at Wheatmore) in July 2013 and we had our first child, Haydin Sue, on August 31, 2014. She is the love of our lives and we can't imagine life without her. I have two amazing parents who are both retired and loving life on the beaches of Calabash, North Carolina. I have two older siblings who reside in North Carolina and Florida. I have a dog named Gracie, she is a boxer, and she is 10 years old! When I attended college, I played lacrosse and just about every other club sport you can think of. I love to watch my favorite football and baseball teams play! I grew up around sports and coaching is a passion of mine as well as teaching! As a second job, I coach the Club Women's Lacrosse team at High Point University.
I love Randolph County because it is a small community and the staff is like family.
As the year progresses, I hope that all my students succeed in academics, socially, and physically. I believe students should be well‐rounded, in order to become successful adults!
