Exceptional Children Department
My undergraduate degree is in Special Education from High Point University and I received my Master's Degree in Physical Education: Adapted Physical Education from Western Michigan University. I am in my ninth year of teaching.
This is my third year at Braxton Craven Middle School, I teach Reading and Math. I am a resource ELA/Math teacher and I teach a class called HillRAP, that is an intensive reading program that targets phonics and fluency.
Prior to Braxton Craven, I worked with the County Office as the Adapted Physical Education Specialist and before that I was at Wheatmore High School. At Wheatmore, I was an Inclusion/Resource teacher. I specialized in Mathematics and taught Algebra, Algebra 2, Technical Math I and II. As an EC teacher, I was also responsible for Curriculum Support classes that focused on building students fundamental skills and reaching their IEP goals. In those classes, I helped raised several student's reading levels and mathematical skills. When teaching Curriculum Support, I helped students grow their reading levels by using 'Clover' and 'Runners' strategies. For mathematical goals, we worked on, not only their grade level math, but the basics of math (adding, subtracting, multiplication skills). I was one of the Physical Education teachers for 3 years at Wheatmore as well. I taught Female Fitness, Advanced Basketball and Volleyball, and Ninth Grade Health/PE. Along with teaching, I coached girl's golf, girl's basketball, volleyball, and track and field.
Creativity, innovation, and 21st Century Skills are utilized in my classroom in order for every child to succeed. I am a huge believer in Station Work and Lessons based on Individual's goals and needs.
